After realizing I was fat and smoking I decided to get started putting myself back together. The only thing I hated more then my vices (and weight) was exercise. Here is the rub: I want to look good; I didn’t want to work to get into shape anymore. We all grow up eventually. That being said, I needed new ways to encourage myself to do things I did not want to, hence the Hate Jar – Motivation for Lazy People.
It had to be something that I could easily access. Something that was goal oriented, but most important, something simple enough I could stick with it. That is how the Hate Jar – Motivation for Lazy People was outlined.
To make one yourself:
1. Pick something you hate.
Whatever that thing is you hate that is the name of your hate jar. Mine is “Get In Shape, Again” hate jar.
2. Fill it will things that will help accomplish the goal of the jar.
For me that was exercises I hated doing. For example, I have problem areas everywhere; I wanted to focus on two things: my back and hips.
So I printed pins from Pinterest like the one below and cut them up into individual exercise pieces until my jar was full.
3. Pick a time you are willing to go to the jar and pull out a piece of paper. DO what it says.
It is that easy.
I go to my jar each day, pull one piece of paper from the jar and I do one exercise. That is all I am willing to commit to; switch it up however you like!
Here are some ideas you can use for your own hate jar:
Ideas to Spend More Time with the Kids (yeah, yeah….if it were easy everyone would do it.)
Ways to Appreciate Your Spouse (ditto)
Appreciation Time (e.g., pieces of paper that read: write down three things your thankful for, schedule lunch with a friend, etc.)
Water Challenge (this would look like various oz of water)
Declutter/Organize (for example, small areas of your home: kitchen counter, etc.)
Have fun and share your ideas below 🙂
And speaking of decluttering, be sure to check out our pose on how-to Organize Your Closet (Easily). There are great tips on how to finish EVEN IF you stop – like a “normal” person.
