If you are new here: this post is part of our Improve Your Relationship with Money series. Each post in this series is related to a course, book, education or tool geared toward Improving Your Relationship with Money. My goal is to provide information that helps you not only understand yourself financially, but how you relate to money so you can transform money in your life in a meaningful and abundant way. You Are a Badass at Making Money is one of those resources (books).
I can count on one hand how many people I want to meet or work with, and I don’t even need all five fingers. This women, Jen Sincero is one of them. She is a powerhouse and super hilarious, which is a total bonus when it comes to trying to understand money. There are few books, if any, I would consider ready more then once and that is also this book.
When I first heard about this book it was rolling around a couple Facebook groups I belonged to. I thought to myself, that title is ridiculous (even though I probably talk like that half of the time). I quickly used the title to dismiss the value of its content.
I read books when we go camping, travel or when I commute (or doing a review). Not wanting to be a broke another day longer, I purchased You Are a Badass at Making Money as my 2018 vacation book.
Here’s the basics: if you are listening to You Are a Badass at Making Money it’s seven hours long. If you want to the paperback, its 14 chapters at your leisure; I would suggest the audio just because she’s so easy to listen to. And as I said before, she is funny. I would laugh out loud every time she said cheddar, referring to money. (Audiobooks are great when commuting too.)
Immediately she gets to kicking your ass and telling you to like it. I’m not entirely sure how she gets to you so quickly and firmly; she does. You are literally, within the first pages of You Are a Badass at Making Money, believing you’re a millionaire, you just lack the funds.
Then you feel like she’s bearing your soul. How does she know so much about me or how I feel about money. The financial and emotional relationship is exposing and liberating all at the same time. Somehow you know longer feel alone in your life and brokeness. She’s the perfect financial therapist.
Before you finish the first chapter you can feel this financial space of complete possibility. There is no other way to explain it. You have the power and she’ll make you believe it! You can totally relate to her broke ass first 40. Her recollection of it rocks you into a desire to move into action. The entire time you’ll be sitting there wondering how she did it, but the confidence in her voice reassures you she is a badass at making money.
Maybe you’ve heard of Zig Ziglar. I remember getting into the backstory of one of his New York Times best seller. He said, there I was fat and overweight writing about a thinner me. As he’s turning the pages of the novel out he begins a running program. Basically, he wrote his future into being.
You Are a Badass at Making Money has that some feel. She tells you she hopes you read the book over and over and do everything it says and listen to your heart. Honestly, when I put the book down I almost immediately wanted to start it over, which is a first for me.
If you feel alone in your financial struggle or just in life, she like an imaginary friend that will shwoop down and carry you out of the bullshit blues of being broke. She will remind you of your authentic voice and remind you not to waste anymore time then you already have.
She is like some personal financial cheerleader with a constant reality check: ain’t nobody riding for free. Nobody, nobody.
Money reminds me of being a teenager. Well, the lack there of really. Being broke it like a constant pressure forming your to bow over and it pushes your head toward the ground. Yeah, and why are my shoes even a fucking issue.
When you pick the book back up, and you will, you are immediately transported to the space of possibility. You will have all these happy emotions bubbling up through blood stream. The space of possibility is immediately brought back to life the minute you hear her voice or read the words.
Even if you don’t want to be motivated by her and her “lame” title, she will disarm you with her logical and logical motherly love. What are you waiting for? Let’s get going! And next thing you know you’ll be making plans to sell all your shit and finally follow your fullest life at almost 50!
If you are looking for some freedom, You Are a Badass at Making Money, will kick the 9-5 door wide open. Fly little birdie, fly and you will. You will set out with this energy you haven’t felt in years, and possibly decades. Of course, I can only recommend you buy it now. Somehow, I’m still not sure myself, you are off and running. Here, take my money. Damn it. You will believe you can turn this mother around and you don’t have to feel bad about it!
You have to decriminalize money for you because, money can’t buy happiness, but being broke can’t buy shit. So, don’t be like me and put this book off. You Are a Badass at Making Money will set you on a financial mindset that makes you smile. You will immediately start to think you know a little bit more about money then the next guy and embrace you are getting close to who you truly are deep down in your financial badassery.
